What Is A Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is an operation designed to improve the contour of the thighs at Sargent Plastic Surgery in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah. This may treat the inner thighs, outer thighs or both. Excess skin is removed by repositioning “underlying” tissue to provide a better contour to the thighs. The most common cause for contour problems in this area is severe weight loss and aging.

Are You A Good Candidate For A Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift should be performed in someone who has a stable weight and realistic expectations. Good Candidates are:

  • Individuals with excess soft tissue in the medial thighs or outer thigh areas

  • Non-smokers

  • Healthy individuals with no major heart or lung medical conditions

  • Specific and realistic goals

How Is A Thigh Lift Performed?

A thigh lift is usually individualized to your specific conditions and goals. To treat the inner thighs, incisions are made in the groin area and may extend down the medial thigh. To treat the outer thighs additional incisions in the bikini line from the anterior thigh to the buttock area may be used. The thighs are reshaped by removing excess skin as well as some fat with repositioning of the underlying tissue to create a better contour.

Thigh Lift Recovery

Patients will wear a compression garment for several weeks. Swelling and discomfort is common the first few days. Light walking is encouraged to keep good circulation in your legs and avoid clots. You can normally return to work in 2 weeks as long as there is no heavy lifting or exercising. It takes several months to see the final results.
